Thanks to our good friend NETFLIX, who is the master in making good and very interesting TV series and movies.  Filming began on January 15, 2018, in Toronto, Ontario, and ended on July 18, 2018.

The Umbrella Academy is an American web television series developed by Steve Blackman for Netflix. It is an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name, created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. The first season premiered on February 15, 2019.

A film version of the comic book series The Umbrella Academy was optioned by Universal Studios. Originally, screenwriter Mark Bomback was hired to write the screenplay; Rawson Marshall Thurber reportedly replaced him in 2010. There had been little talk of the film from that time. In an interview with Newsarama at the 2012 New York Comic Con, Way mentioned that there have been "good talks" and a "really good script", but that it was "kind of up to the universe".

On July 7, 2015, it was announced that The Umbrella Academy would be developed into a television series, rather than an original film, produced by Universal Cable Productions. On July 11, 2017, it was officially announced that Netflix had greenlit a live-action series adaptation of The Umbrella Academy premiering in 2019, with Way and Bá acting as executive producers. Jeremy Slater wrote the pilot script, and Steve Blackman is the showrunner.

The base of the story is based on Women's giving birth to children and they are the superhumans.  On October 1, 1989, forty-three women around the world give birth having shown no sign of pregnancy the day before. These children are gifted with superpowers and abilities. Seven of these children, Klaus, Luther, Diego, Allison, Ben, Vanya, and an unnamed teenager, are adopted by a wealthy business magnate, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates "The Umbrella Academy", a superhero team using numbers to protect their identities. While six of his "children" work to save the world, Reginald uses Vanya to help him monitor her brothers and sister' activities, as she seemingly has no powers of her own.

During an attempt to stop the Eiffel Tower from losing control, Ben is killed in the crossfire and the team disbands, distressing Reginald. In the present day, Luther is an astronaut, Allison is famous, Vanya is playing violin on stage, Klaus is a party animal with drug addiction, while Diego has become a vigilante with a penchant for trouble.

The estranged siblings learn that Reginald has died and gathered for his funeral. The teenager, now known as Number Five or "The Boy", returns from the future, revealing that a global apocalypse is intact. Meanwhile, the reunited siblings try to uncover the secret of their dysfunctional family while beginning to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities.

Ellen Page as Vanya Hargreeves / Number Seven / The White Violin, a violinist with no superpowers who later gains them. Vanya is capable of releasing destructive waves of force using her violin that can be strong enough to cut someone's throat or destroy an entire building with a single note.

Mary J. Blige as Cha-Cha, a ruthless and unorthodox assassin who travels through time to kill assigned targets.

Cameron Britton as Hazel, Cha-Cha's calmer partner.

John Magaro as Leonard Peabody (Harold Jenkins), Vanya's love interest.

As the Apocalypse looms, the Umbrella Academy come together in an attempt to stop Vanya from destroying the world. At the last moment, Vanya's apocalyptic fire is redirected out into space, apparently saving the world. 

However, the fire burns a hole through the Moon. As a result, the Moon begins breaking up and rains asteroids down upon the world, including a world-killing fragment, the true cause of the Apocalypse. Having failed in their mission, Number Five suggests that they use his abilities to all travel back in time to use their foreknowledge to stop the Apocalypse as a team. Number Five insists upon bringing Vanya with them as she will always cause the Apocalypse unless they take Vanya with them and fix her. As the world is consumed, Number Five's powers revert the Umbrella Academy back into teenagers and transports them back in time.
